    Vehicle Overview
While some say wagons are a dying breed, Volvo has long been a staunch supporter of this iconic family-mobile and continues to show its support with the V70, which was redesigned for 2008.

Volvo's hallmark has been and remains safety, and the V70 is available with advanced safety features like Collision Warning with Auto Brake. This system uses a light and sound to warn the driver if it senses a collision may occur with a car in front of it; the system brakes the car if the driver doesn't heed the alert.

The XC70 offers a similar design with a few more offroad provisions; it's listed separately in the Cars.com Research section.

    Exterior
As with its recently redesigned S80 flagship sedan, Volvo has made the front end of the V70 a bit more assertive and muscular, but the basic shape of the previous V70 lives on in the new model. Volvo says the liftgate window juts farther down at the edges to provide enhanced rear visibility.

The V70 features a raised hood designed to lessen the effect of an impact with a pedestrian. Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights that turn in concert with the steering wheel are available. A power liftgate is optional.

    Interior
Like the S80, the five-seat V70 has a simple, clutter-free dashboard and a floating center control panel. The rear seats are split 40/20/40 to accommodate various cargo-carrying needs, and a movable cargo floor is available. Automatic climate control is standard and leather upholstery is optional.

    Under the Hood
The V70 features a 235-horsepower, 3.2-liter inline-six-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.

    Safety
Traction control, an electronic stability system, side-impact airbags for the front seats and side curtain airbags that extend farther down to better protect shorter occupants are standard. Adjustable child booster seats in the second row are standard.

Volvo's WHIPS technology is designed to lessen the impact of a rear-end crash by cradling front-seat occupants with their seat. The automaker's Blind Spot Information System keeps track of cars in the driver's blind spots.

    • Great car but expensive to fix

By Connie on 4/6/2022 12:33:59 AM

      5.0
Loved this car because of its reputation for safety, comfort, and dependability. It's been the family hauler for almost eight (8) years and has done well. The only complaint I have is that it's really, really, expensive to fix when things go wrong. Unfortunately, it started using oil at 50,000 miles - which we have been able to work around by adding a quart between oil changes. The real challenge, however, is how expensive it is to fix when things break. I was recently told that the exhaust system and catalytic converter may go and it's a $5,000 fix. Ouch. I figure that anytime I need to replace something, e.g., brakes, a front bearing, the serpentine belt, etc. it's going to be $1,000 repair. Fortunately, I only get a couple of those a year which makes fixing it cheaper than replacing the car. I really wish Volvo still made this car as I believe it was one (1) of their best sellers. If they did, I would buy it again.

We've been so happy with our 2013 XC70, purchased new that year, we bought a 2016 Platinum version in summer 2021.

This has been an excellent vehicle and at over 135,000 miles is still running strong. It's the Premium Plus version. It's quiet inside and the T6 engine is quite fast, but lousy on gas. (Good thing it's 87 octane.) Like this one so much that last summer we bought a 2016 Platinum version of the XC70.
