Vehicle Overview
Lincoln redesigned its full-size luxury SUV for 2007, revamping the grille and sprucing up the interior. For 2008, Lincoln made some optional features standard, including a power liftgate, power-folding third-row seats, and a 14-speaker audio system with satellite radio. A rearview camera system is a new option. The Navigator's competitors include the Cadillac Escalade and Infiniti QX56. A longer-wheelbase model, the Navigator L, joined the lineup for 2007.

Exterior
The Navigator could be accused of being boxy, though Lincoln calls this effect "clean lines." One element is prominent from last year's redesign: the grille. It's an eggcrate design with a large horizontal bar running through the Lincoln logo.
A power liftgate is standard for 2008. Three new exterior colors are available: White Suede, Vapor Silver and Stone Green. A monochrome limited edition package that adds various body-colored exterior parts is available in white, black, silver or green. Power-folding running boards are optional.
Interior
Throughout all eight seating positions — and beyond — this is a well-thought-out interior. The front seats are each adjustable 10 ways, and adjustable pedals add to the driver's comfort. Both front seats are heated and cooled, and all eight seats are covered in leather.
Cargo space increases to 54.5 cubic feet when the standard power-folding third-row seats are flipped down. The second row also folds flat, and with both rows down the Navigator has 103.5 cubic feet of cargo.
Leather and wood accents are found throughout the cabin. If the monochrome exterior package is chosen, unique black carpet, ebony wood trim and seats with leather inserts are included.
Satellite radio and a 14-speaker audio system are standard for 2008.
Under the Hood
The Navigator can have either rear- or four-wheel drive and is powered by a 300-horsepower, 5.4-liter V-8 engine that produces 365 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission, and the Navigator can tow up to 8,950 pounds when properly equipped.
Safety
Antilock brakes, an electronic stability system with Roll Stability Control, side-impact airbags for front-seat occupants, and side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats are standard. A rearview camera mounted in the rear liftgate handle is a new option for 2008. It displays its image in the rearview mirror.
Navigator L
For 2007, Lincoln introduced the Navigator L, which is 15 inches longer than the Navigator. It's available with all the same features and options as the Navigator, but provides 42.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats up — nearly 25 cubic feet more than the shorter model. With the second- and third-row seats down, this longer-wheelbase model offers an ample 128.2 cubic feet of cargo space.
The Navigator L's maximum towing capacity is 8,850 pounds, 100 pounds less than the standard version.
