    Vehicle Overview

    Built on a car-based platform shared with the Dodge Caliber, the Compass is one of two front-drive-based models from Jeep — the other being the compact Patriot. Compass competitors include the Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue.

    New for 2012
    Jeep has modified the calibration of the available continuously variable automatic transmission to deliver better launch acceleration, smoother deceleration, reduced mid-throttle engine rpm and heightened gas-pedal sensitivity. 

    Exterior
    The Compass shares a few styling cues with its big brother, the Grand Cherokee SUV. Similarities are most evident in the front bumper, grille and headlight styling. Exterior features include:

    Two four-cylinder engines are offered in the Compass, and buyers can choose from three drivelines: front-wheel drive; Freedom Drive I four-wheel drive with lock mode; and Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package, a Trail-Rated four-wheel-drive system. Freedom Drive II has a CVT that incorporates a low range for off-road driving. The package also includes 17-inch all-terrain tires, a full-size spare tire, an extra inch of ground clearance for 9.1 inches overall, a skid plate for the gas tank and tow hooks. Mechanical features include:

    • Base 158-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder
    • Available 172-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder

      Bought this when we were expecting our second child. Really loved to drive it. It did get a bit uncomfortable on longer trips, but easily fit two car seats. Had an accident and the airbags deployed as they should have, and everyone was fine. My favorite features were the remote start, heated seats, and an actual FULL SIZE outlet plug! Clock quit working fairly quick which was annoying. The plastic elements of the car seemed to be kinda cheap.…

      The vehicle within 120,000 miles and 4.6 years of ownership has been more of a drag on life than a positive experience. Everything from ball joints, to transmission issues, even the sellers were terrible. Front end of the car needed to be redone as well as the rear, full bearings and hubs within 90,000 miles. The interior was poorly made and designed, its to tight in spots and material wise the seats ripped just from sitting in them, Selt belts barely click and the radio wasnt worth anything more than a clock. It looks like some sort of knock off kia but falls apart faster. No space for car seat toddlers and the cargo area is small. Overall the car is a dumpster fire.…
