    FRONT WHEEL DRIVE
    2007 Honda Odyssey

    Vehicle Overview
The 1999 - 2004 generation of Honda's front-wheel-drive Odyssey was a class leader. For 2005, the minivan received a major redesign in Honda's attempt to leapfrog the growing competition. It carries on into 2007 with minimal changes, including a tilt/telescoping steering wheel and tire pressure monitoring system for all trim levels, plus two new exterior colors.

The Odyssey has a foldaway third-row Magic Seat and a stowable PlusOne seat in the second row. Side curtain airbags protect occupants in all three rows, and an electronic stability system is standard. The windows in the sliding doors can be partially opened.

Four trim levels are offered: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. The top two models use a Variable Cylinder Management version of Honda's 3.5-liter V-6, which shifts automatically between six- and three-cylinder operation in response to driving conditions. A regular V-6 goes into the LX and EX.

The Touring model is available with a DVD entertainment system; the system is also available in EX-L models for 2007, but only in combination with the navigation system. XM Satellite Radio is standard in Touring models, and the EX-L gets a leather-trimmed steering wheel. Odysseys are built in Alabama.

    Exterior
Built on a 118.1-inch wheelbase, the Odyssey measures 201 inches long overall. All models have dual sliding side doors, and all but the LX have power operation on both sides. Pulling the door handle halts the power doors, and a power liftgate is available on Touring models.

Touring models use Michelin PAX run-flat tires. A power moonroof is standard on EX-L and Touring minivans. Nimbus Gray Metallic and Dark Cherry Pearl are new exterior color options for 2007.

    Interior
Seating for seven occupants consists of two bucket seats in the first and second rows and a third-row 60/40-split bench that folds into the floor. EX and EX-L models seat eight people thanks to a removable center seat in the second row that can stow into a recessed compartment, which can be used for storage when the seat isn't stowed. A Lazy Susan under-floor tray holds miscellaneous items in Touring models. Adjustable pedals are available in Touring models, and the gearshift lever sits on the instrument panel. For 2007, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel is standard for all trims, and there is a center pocket coin holder.

A DVD-based rear entertainment system, available on EX-L models and standard on Touring models, uses a 9-inch screen. Honda's navigation system operates with voice recognition, can respond to 637 commands, and understands street names, numbers and destinations.

    Under the Hood
Honda's 244-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 teams with a five-speed automatic transmission. In EX-L and Touring models, the Variable Cylinder Management V-6 switches operation automatically between three and six cylinders. Both engines generate 240 pounds-feet of torque, but at slightly different engine speeds.

    Safety
Side-impact and three-row side curtain airbags, all-disc antilock brakes and traction control are standard, as is an electronic stability system. A tire pressure monitoring system is standard on all trim levels.

    Driving Impressions
Exuding excellence, the Odyssey is energetic, quiet, capable and easy to drive. Although the Odyssey nearly meets Honda's Euro-sedan handling claim, its steering isn't quite as precise and requires a slightly heavy touch.

Slight corrections are needed on straightaways, but body lean in curves is minimal. With its comparatively taut suspension, the Odyssey's ride is a bit firm, but it exhibits near-instant recovery over bumps.

For a minivan, acceleration is wholly satisfying, though short of startling. It's impossible to discern when operation moves between three and six cylinders with the Variable Cylinder Management engine. Transmission shifts are crisp, quick and usually inconspicuous. The voice-recognition navigation system is simply amazing.

    • Keeps on ticking at 223,000 miles

We bought used with 30k miles on it in 2007 and it is on its 2nd timing belt. We have had many things done to it,but some self inflicted. For instance. No car should go 100k without having plugs removed and anti seize applied to them.We did. So first TB change they had trouble getting one plug out and a few months later it blew a spark plug. The mech had obviously cross threaded it during TB change. Had a helicoil put in and all was well.Other major thing was motor mounts. $1500 with axles. I have always done engine and trans oil changes myself because its relatively easy. I will admit to not being on top of all maint but after 223,000 m , teaching 2 kids to drive, mowing down 3 deer it does use a little oil but runs smooth. We are shooting for 300k

Purchased 2006 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING in 2011 with 102,000 miles on it. A couple of brothers in law in the used car business assured me that 100K miles on a car are not the deterrent that it used to be. In 8 years we have put 58K miles on it. I love the fact that the leather front seats are 'butt high" - easy in and out. It has an EXCELLENT Navigation system. The large screen is so much better than dash-mounted portables or cell phones. The map graphics are very basic, but the screen divides and shows the map on the left and lists the next 4 turns on the right. It "recovers" quickly when you divert from the programmed route. The ONLY mechanical problem has been having to replace the STARTER. Did, however, have to replace the rear liftgate struts. DIY only cost about $20 and an easy fix. Another problem has been the low front end clearance. The front bumper is so low that it hits parking space curbs - wheel stops, parking chocks, curb stops, That has happened all too many times and has scraped the underside of the front bumper and slightly dislocated it. Not so much damage that it is very noticeable. There have been a few irritating "quirks", tho. On a couple of occasions, the A/C vents on the dash, one would blow HOT while the other would blow COLD. I took it to my mechanic, who could find no freon leakage. He recycled/cleaned the freon (which I like to have done every couple of years anyway - $50) and added very little freon, and both sides blew COLD. The next season both vents were blowing HOT with the system OFF. This time took it to an A/C specialist. He simply pushed the climate control buttons for each side to MAX and down to LOW several times, and that fixed it. NO CHARGE. Other than that, in the 8 years of driving have had no A/C repairs. Also, there were several occasions when it would crank but fail to start. Would happen at random times for no obvious reason. This was an inconvenient nuisance. I forget now how it was corrected, but it was a simple DIY fix once we discovered how. I love this vehicle. Am looking to step up to a later model HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING model soon.

With a family of two young boys under the age of 5, and with me being gone all the time, I needed a vehicle that would make life easier for my wife with easy access to the baby seats, electric sliding doors that can be actuated from a distance when her hands are full with the kids or when her hands are full and it's raining cats and dogs. A comfortable ride for those longs road trips, DVD system to keep the kids entertained, decent gas mileage, front and rear heater/aircond controls, built-in sun shields for the kids windows, did I mention the sliding door windows rolls down like a regular door window, seats folds using one hand. Awesome car!! BUT the vehicle also needed to be SAFE. With Honda's great vehicle test ratings and nine airbags in this Odyssey, the price you pay for this minivan is well worth it. How do I know? I purchased our Odyssey last year 2007 brand new with 15 miles on the odometer, already did a road trip to Orlando Florida and the car performed great as to performance, comfort, and funtions with the kids. HERE WE GO... yesterday my wife got into a car accident, she was T-Boned (hit in the driver side) by another car (Mitsubisi Sedan) with the baby sitting in the baby seat on the driver side sliding door. All curtain airbags deployed preventing impact and glass particle injuries. Thank god- Everyone in the van escape without life threating injuries. The van has been totalled a lost and I have to get another vehicle. Which vehicle will I purchase again? Another Honda Odyssey, I am SOLD on this vehicle!
