    2009 FORD ESCAPE XLT
    1FMCU93G39KA11960
    4 DOOR SPORT UTILITY 3.0L V6 FI
    4 WHEEL DRIVE

    Vehicle Overview
In 2008, Ford's smallest CUV lost its cutesy exterior and interior for a new bold styling direction. For 2009, the boxy brute gets added firepower and increased fuel efficiency. The Escape's competition includes the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Saturn Vue.

    New for 2009
Available six-speed automatic transmission, redesigned seats, available Sync multimedia interface.

    Exterior
The Escape looks more like a Ford Explorer now, but with a plunging chrome grille in some trim levels that would be equally at home on a Volkswagen Jetta or Golf. A raised hood and higher beltline may make the SUV look tougher, but they probably don't do much for visibility. At 174.7 inches long and 71.1 inches wide, the Escape is the shortest of its competitors, but not by much.
    • Fuel cap removed in favor of capless refueling nozzle
    • New 16-inch low-rolling-resistance tires
    • New aerodynamic refinements
    • Larger front air dam

    Interior
The 2008 Escape got a totally revised interior, making it blocky and square. Along with improved materials, the cabin is quieter and the seats more environmentally friendly, with seat fabric made out of 100 percent post-industrial-waste plastic. Passenger volume remains the same, at 99 cubic feet; that's slightly tighter than the CR-V and RAV4 but larger than the Vue.
    • Cruise control now standard
    • Available ambient lighting
    • Available Sync multimedia interface
    • Standard auxiliary input jack
    • Blue backlighting
    • Redesigned seats use environmentally friendly construction

    Under the Hood
Changes under the hood include many performance and fuel-efficiency modifications that help the Escape sip less gas, provide more passing power and handle more securely.
    • New 171-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder (171 pounds-feet of torque)
    • New 240-hp, 3.0-liter V-6 (223 pounds-feet of torque)
    • Available six-speed automatic transmission
    • Five-speed manual
    • Drive-by-wire throttle control
    • Chassis system upgrades improve ride comfort and handling

    Safety
The 2009 Ford Escape features an array of standard safety technologies. The Escape's braking system has been revised in an effort to improve brake pedal feel and allow shorter stopping distances.
    • Antilock brakes
    • Roll stability control
    • Dual-stage front airbags
    • Front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags

I purchased this vehicle based on economic logic. To my surprise, I really like the car. It drives very comfortably and has plenty of space. The gas mileage really can be 34 mph and even higher, depending on how you drive: slow city driving, bumper to bumper jams and rolling through foothills you can easily get 40 mpg. Unfortuantely, I am a freeway driver and always in a hurry. I tend to get about 27 - 28 mpg with my driving habits. My first impression is that is was made for a man -- everything is flat and hard, not curvey or soft. The seat was uncomfortable at first. I don't know if it molded to my body or if I just got used to it. But, after 7,000 miles I don't notice it any more. It has plenty of power for my needs -- typical mom stuff. Very quiet when in electric mode, a bit noisy when using gas but not as noisey as a typical truck. I love the Sync -- it makes so much sense and is easy to set up & use. I just tell my car to call home and talk like my family is in the car with me. Sync my iPod, plug in my laptop, etc. Very techno friendly. I have been a toyota driver for 30 years and really wanted a Lexus Hybrid, but could not justify the cost to mileage ratio. I was very reluctant to switch to Ford but now I am glad I gave it a chance.

Inherited this car from a family member when I was in high school ten years ago with 20,000 miles on it. I just parked it for the last time with 250,000 miles on it. It was a reliable car with a comfy interior, good ride height, and surprising performance. I only started having issues with it after 220,000 miles on it when it started leaking oil and had some brake problems. Until that point the car was a dream. The car isn't worth me fixing ow since I have a newer vehicle now but i'm happy that this car served me well for so long!

So great I’m going to buy another. My current Escape is a 2009. In all these years I have never had a repair. 95% of my driving is highway and my average mpg is 24.
