    FRONT WHEEL DRIVE

    2005 Dodge Neon
    Vehicle Overview
Performance was the biggest news for Dodge's compact, front-wheel-drive, four-door Neon sedan for the 2003 model year, which marked the debut of a high-performance SRT4 offshoot model. The SRT4 is listed separately by cars.com. A 2003 face-lift for all models included new front and rear fascias, headlights and taillights.

The Neon compact sedan comes in SE and value-packed SXT trim levels, and each is powered by a 132-horsepower four-cylinder engine. Either a manual or an automatic transmission can be installed. Side-impact airbags are optional. The sporty R/T edition is gone.

At the 2005 Geneva Auto Show, Dodge unveiled a hatchback Caliber concept that could be the basis for the Neon's replacement, which is likely to debut in 2006.

    Exterior
Since its redesign for the 2000 model year, Dodge has offered only a four-door sedan version in its Neon lineup. Its overall length is 174.4 inches, which is an inch shorter than the Honda Civic sedan. Styling evokes a kinship to the original Neon, which debuted for 1995, but designers say they attempted to give the second-generation model a more mature, substantial appearance. Standard SE tires measure 14 inches in diameter, while the SXT gets 15-inchers. An SRT Design package with a power bulge hood, dual exhausts and a rear spoiler is available for 2005, and a new Kicker audio system may be installed.

    Interior
All Neons seat five people on a pair of front buckets and a three-place 60/40-split folding rear seat. A rear-window defogger and a center console with four cupholders are standard. Cargo volume is 13.1 cubic feet. Standard SE equipment includes a cassette stereo and Millennium cloth upholstery. The SXT adds a tachometer, air conditioning, power front windows and a CD player.

The steering wheel contains an aluminum Dodge medallion. An in-dash six-CD changer is optional in the SXT.

    Under the Hood
    A 132-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder powers both Neon models and mates to either a four-speed-automatic or five-speed-manual transmission.

    Safety
Antilock brakes and side-impact airbags are optional.

    Driving Impressions
Nimble handling and reasonably brisk performance help make the smallest DaimlerChrysler model appealing to compact-car buyers. The Neon sedan is particularly easy to drive and benefits from quick, crisp steering. It is somewhat bouncy through harsh urban pavement, but the ride is fine on the highway. The taut suspension is nicely controlled and seldom overreacts, but the sedan hits some bumps harder than expected.

Despite its undeniable merits, the Neon fails to stand significantly above the competition. Noise is one drawback. A quieter engine could make the Neon a stronger rival to such class leaders as the Civic. Rear-seat headroom is marginal, and the interior feels snug. The seatbacks especially in the rear aren't very comfortable.

The wife own one of these for almost 10 years. The oil light sensor was coming on for no reason, but probably a bad sensor. They don't seem to measure oil pressure, but only oil level. So, I knew the level was perfect and after letting a dealer try and repair it, we ignored it and was fine. The car handled snow conditions very well. It was pedictable and never got stuck. The interior was a very basic plastic design which seemed not all that thought out. The front seats felt uncomfortable to me and kinda cheap. Mechanical of the car was ok and the vehicle lasted problem free. She used it as a grocery vehicle and hardly put on any mileage dury ownership. Certain areas of the car were effected by weather. The windshield posts rubber coating was starting to peel off and the window scrapers were also rotting off prematurely. The air intake plastic venting piece installed right in front of the windshield cracked on passenger side at the mounts. Looks like it was cracked from stress from the mounting screws. The rear view mirror accumilated flaws inside the glass which was weird. The car had alot of trunk space and plenty of power to keep up. The paint seemed to last well in severe weather as well. In general, the car did what it was purchased to do and it did it for many years and not driven for many highway miles. In my opinion, this car will last for may years to go, but keep an eye on the exterior parts being effected by weather.

I have had 4 different srt4s. I put a diablo intune i3 platinum on all of them.. some I put on big turbo ,big injectors, and 3" down pipe ,high volume high pressure fuel pump and if you do all that you better open up your ring gap and delete your balance shaft. You get 450 to 500 horsepower.. the one I have now is a stock stage 2 car on e85 and runs real hard . I don't know if you can buy a quicker car for under $5000. They are getting harder to get and are going up in price every year. Kelly blue back doesn't do their research that's for sure.

I bought this car brand-new back in 2003 I have had it for 21 years I have never had any major issues with it and I have kept the repairs and everything on it and it has lasted me 21 years I’m so grateful but now it is getting older as I am and I just wanted to know whether there are you a Videos in a steel is Wurth there are you because I have well-kept it there are a few places on the back side on the passenger side where are because of moisture there is a little tiny rust but other than that it is a great car I’ve driven it for 21 years and I’ve had my license for over 50 years I would highly recommend a – neon if you just wanna use car this is a good one or you can buy a brand new one.
