    2005 CHEVROLET COBALT
    1G1AK52F557574212
    SEDAN 4 DR 2.2L L4 MPI DOHC
    FRONT WHEEL DRIVE

    Vehicle Overview
Built on General Motors' Delta architecture, the new front-wheel-drive Cobalt comes in sedan and coupe body styles. Six versions are offered. Sedans are available in base, LS and LT trim levels, while coupes are offered in base, LS and SS Supercharged editions. Distinct interiors and wheels help in differentiating the models. Most Cobalts use a 145-horsepower four-cylinder, but a 205-hp supercharged engine goes into the SS Supercharged coupe.

Chevrolet says the Cobalt's electric power steering is "tuned to match the performance levels of the various tire and suspension packages." Equipped with a strut-type front suspension and semi-independent torsion beam rear suspension, Cobalts have a turning circle of 37.4 feet. Front and rear stabilizer bars are installed

    Exterior
Chevrolet press material says the Cobalt coupe has an "elegantly tapered reverse C-pillar leading the eye to Chevrolet's signature four round taillamps." Both body styles feature a horizontally split grille with a gold bowtie badge in the center.

SS Supercharged coupes feature bolder fascias and rocker-panel areas. All models have body-colored door handles and jewellike headlights and taillights. A power sunroof is optional.

Base models have disc brakes in front and drums in the rear, and SS Supercharged coupes stop with all-disc antilock brakes. Built on a 103.3-inch wheelbase, the Cobalt is just over 180 inches long and 67.9 inches wide. Base models ride on 15-inch wheels, and the SS Supercharged coupe is fitted with 18-inch wheels.

    Interior
Both the coupe and sedan seat five occupants, with front bucket seats and a 60/40-split, folding rear seat. Higher-than-usual seating positions are intended to give sedan occupants a "more commanding view of the road," according to Chevrolet. Occupants can access the trunk area from inside the car.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning, an electric rear defogger, a tilt steering column, a driver information center and a CD player. Heated leather seats, XM Satellite Radio, MP3 playback capability and GM's OnStar communication system are optional. Keyless entry, cruise control, power windows and power mirrors are included in LS, LT and SS Supercharged models.

    Under the Hood
Base, LS and LT models use a 2.2-liter four-cylinder that produces 145 hp. A supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the SS Supercharged coupe develops 205 hp and 200 pounds-feet of torque.

The 2.2-liter engine can team with either a Getrag five-speed-manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic. The SS Supercharged coupe comes only with a five-speed manual.

    Safety
Antilock brakes are standard on LS, LT and SS Supercharged models. Cobalts with the automatic and ABS also have traction control. Side curtain-type airbags are optional.

    • It is what it is?

I have a 2007 LT coupe. The Cobalt comes in eye popping colors (mine is orange) and is a great value for a driver who wants something that looks sporty without the pricetag. While the car's exterior is aesthetically pleasing and the interior simple and sharp, the car is cheaply made. I have had a lot of small issues, most which happened around 30,000 miles which was ridiculous: the passenger side window motor died, my front speakers/lock chimes/ turn signal sounds quit working, the control arm bearing on the passenger side has been replaced twice, and the thermostat only works occasionally. Aside from these small things, the power steering motor and fuel pumps were recalled by the manufacturer. Overall, you get what you pay for I guess. It hasn't left me stranded but it is annoying wondering what problem it will have next.
    • Most reliable car I've ever owned

I've owned this car for 10 years and have only done regular oil changes, tires, and a $700 repair. It's the best performing and most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. No frills or gadgets, but it's been amazing in terms of reliability and gas mileage.
    • Good style, comfortable ride, but cheaply built.

I've always been a big Chevy fan. I jumped at the chance to purchase this car when I saw it in the used car lot. Had only 28,000 and had a clean history report. Very stylish car with a comfortable smooth ride. The seats are alittle stiff but not to bad. Very quick and pretty good on gas but not great. However after about a year of driving it, little things started to break. Like the gear clip on the shifter broke off, and the red gear indicator is stuck on gear 1 (automatic trans) so I have to make sure im in drive and not reservse when I go to take off. My trunk light stopped working after about 5 months, still havent replaced it just to big of a hassle. The Keyless entry fob remote stopped working because the metal clip that holds and battery down broke. Dont ever drop your remote! It doesnt take shock to well, cheaply made. Replacements are easily $160 out the door at the dealership. If your battery happens to die and you try to start the car, your key will get stuck in the ignition due to the electronic ignition switch not receiveing any power. Major pain in the behind. However is it possible to manualy override that by popping open the small door under the steering collem and pressing the little white button (kinda hard to see but it is accessible) Well that has been my expeience with my 2009 Chevy Cobalt 4D LT. If you read this I hope I have helped! I give this car a 7/10 overall rating. If you can get a good price for this car I absolutely reccomend it! Just don't over pay.
